Winnipeg

_DSC3753It may sound like a crazy idea to some, but on Friday myself and a couple of other tech-loving guys from Winnipeg headed south from Winnipeg to Minneapolis, in search of Apple's latest product, the iPad!

Not only was it a chance for Kevin Hnatiuk, Ian McCausland, Lloyd Hannesson to get our hands on the tablet 3 to 4 weeks before others in Canada, but it was a great opportunity to socialize, talk about our Industry and celebrate a long-standing tradition... the Road Trip!

Kevin edited this short video from our trip on his new iPhone app he is developing in about 15 minutes, on the car ride home...

I will have more details in the near future about what I think of the iPad, but in the meantime though I would share a few photos from our visit to the Apple Store!

New Media Manitoba is hosting an intro to developing for the iPhone and iPod Touch event this evening, and I will be live-blogging here for those interested, but unable to attend or get into this sold out event!

And here is the transcript from the event...

Freshly Brewed LuvaCup.ca WebsiteFor those that are not aware, my wife and I started a new business up this past spring, LuvaCup Gourmet Coffee Service. As the name suggests, it is an office coffee service which provides high quality espresso based coffee beverages to offices around the Winnipeg area.

Why did we get involved in another business? We both have a passion for exceptional coffee, and the quality of the beverages that the Barista Supremo machine creates are better than I have had in any coffee house around.

Because Joanne wasn't paying me huge heaps of money, I have been putting off developing a website for the company, but in the past couple of days I have finally developed luvacup.ca!

It is not the most feature rich site, nor is it very flashy, but I am kinda proud of it for a few reasons...

Spring Clean in WinnipegI received an email today with a great idea for cleaning up Winnipeg's downtown core. It looks as though there is a couple of afternoons being organized to clean up a couple of targetted areas in the downtown area.

What I like about this plan is it not just about cleaning up an area where it is well-deserved, but it also seems to be including a little bit of team-work, networking, cocktails and fun with a great overall goal.

Finding a few corporate sponsors, and making it into a fun time will probably attract more participants than sadly would otherwise be the case.

Unfortunately I will not be around during these two dates, otherwise I wouldh have participated, but maybe some of you readers might be interested in helping to clean up Winnipeg's downtown core!

Lets just keep our fingers crossed that the weather is great next week!
